Early Childhood Educators

General Resources:

Resources for Families:

Referral services for families looking for a childcare placement or preschool classroom are available through our office. Updating your information with us can be done on a regular basis through phone or email so that families searching for care can be matched to programs with openings.

Additionally, a lending library of books on topics related to children & parenting is available to sign out at PALS. Whether you’re looking for information on typical development, the “ages & stages” of childhood, or have a particular concern, such as adoption, divorce, or loss, we have just the book for you. For your convenience, duplicate copies of all these books are available upstairs in the Children’s Room. We also keep a resource file of articles pertaining to common childhood issues in loose-leaf binders on the Parent Shelf. We continue to add and update this collection.

Resources for Professionals:

In addition to the books available on early childhood topics and development, we offer a selection of curriculum and classroom activity books geared for teachers and providers of young children. Issues of “Young Children” (the journal of NAEYC), “Early Childhood Today,” and “Mailbox” are available. Publications from the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care are also on loan here.

Materials Available for Loan:

We have a large collection of animal puppets, math games & manipulatives, a listening center with audio tapes and multiple copies of the corresponding book, Big Books, Story Kits with props, flannel board stories & activities, books on video, and so much more! If you need a particular item or game, just call and inquire! We’re happy to share!

Recycled Materials:

A limited amount of donated materials are available for distribution. They include clear contact, white & colored contact, vinyl clings, and silver, gold, and cotton adhesive-backed papers. Also on hand are fabric and yarn galore! Please call to arrange a good time to visit.

Parenting Programs:

Parenting is one of the toughest jobs ever held. We are here to support you and your children as the “magic years” slip quickly by. Sometimes we sponsor performers to come and entertain the whole family. Sometimes we have fun events for children and parents to share together. Sometimes we care for the children while parents (and grandparents) learn and share the secrets of raising happy, healthy children. Always, we hope to make happy childhood memories! Look for our seasonal calendars for detailed information.

Theme Kits:

Choose any of our curriculum kits for children’s programs, and you’ll find books, manipulatives, and materials integrating all learning areas in one box! Topics include Firefighters, Nursery Rhymes, Rain forests, Dinosaurs, Insects, Community Workers, Farms, Sea Life, Healthcare, ABCs, and Mice. Kits available through the Upper Cape Family Network are for parents to borrow too! Themes: Spring, Families, Frogs, Feelings, Potty Time. Resources for Educators at the Sandwich Public Library:

Some of the items in the Toy Lending Library include gross motor equipment, such as parachutes, obstacle courses, bean bag toss games, etc. Other items include manipulatives and table games. Discovery Backpacks are theme-oriented backpacks with a book, toy, and a video or game. For a complete inventory of available materials, please see the Toy Lending Notebook in the Children’s Room. For use on-site are a badge-a-minute machine, a laminator, a color copier, and an Accu-cut machine with a variety of dies. There is a materials charge for some machines.
